Cradle to Cradle Certified Products (Part 1): 10 Sustainable Architectural Glasses
The Cradle to Cradle Certified™ Products Program is becoming a globally recognized “gold standard” science-based quality certification. It acknowledges continuous improvement and innovation of products and processes towards the goal of being not just “less bad” but also “more good” for people and the planet. It provides consumers, regulators, employees, and industry peers with a clear, visible, and tangible validation of a manufacturer’s ongoing commitment to sustainability and to their communities.
The Cradle to Cradle Certified™ Product Standard guides designers and manufacturers through a continual improvement process that looks at a product through five quality categories — material health, material reutilization, renewable energy and carbon management, water stewardship, and social fairness. A product receives an achievement level in each category — Basic, Bronze, Silver, Gold, or Platinum — with the lowest achievement level representing the product’s overall mark.
This is the first part of our Cradle to Cradle series in with we highlight sustainable products with the Cradle to Cradle Certification. In this first part, we highlight 10 architectural glass.
1600 Wall System™ 1 and System™ 2 | Kawneer
1600 Wall System™1 Curtain Wall is a stick fabricated, pressure-glazed curtain wall for low- to mid-rise applications and is designed to be used independently or as an integrated system, with 1600 Wall System™2 Curtain Wall, to provide visual impact for almost any type of building.
1600 Wall System™2 Curtain Wall is a stick fabricated, Structural Silicone Glazed (SSG) curtain wall for low- to mid-rise applications and is designed to be used independently or as an integrated system with 1600 Wall System™1 Curtain Wall.
Patterned Glass | AGC Glass Europe
Patterned Glass products feature a design and a texture printed into the surface on one or both sides of a clear glass sheet. Some patterns are also available in a sandblasted version and with a metal mesh. The type of design and its structure determine the level of translucence of the glass.

Float glass is the glass technology used for making flat glass for applications like construction, interior furnishings and decoration, and the automotive and transport industries.

Magnetron Coated Glass | AGC Glass Europe
Magnetron Coated Glass is coated on one side with several layers of metal oxides applied using a vacuum electromagnetic process.

Stratobel and Stratophone | AGC Glass Europe
Stratobel is the range of AGC laminated glass. Laminated glass consists of an assembly of two or more sheets of glass and one or more PVB (polyvinyl butyral) interlayers. If the glass is broken, most of the fragments remain stuck to the interlayer. Stratobel is designed to combine safety with other functions (thermal insulation, solar control, protection from UV radiation, acoustics, design) in a single glass product.
Stratophone is the range of AGC acoustic laminated glass. This range is designed for a high-level acoustic performance while providing mechanical performance equivalent to normal PVB in terms of safety. By including at least one acoustic PVB interlayer, Stratophone is designed to reduce noise, providing a quiet atmosphere day and night.

Thermobel & iplus / ipasol are the AGC Glass Europe brands of insulating glazing. Using AGC’s range of coatings, Thermobel and iplus / ipasol are designed to offer an optimal thermal comfort over the whole year combined with the high requirements on thermal insulation and light and visual comfort.
In addition to the primary function as described above, each Thermobel and iplus / ipasol can be designed to meet the needs of your application whether it is for a private house, a commercial building project or industrial use.

Painted glass, acid-etched glass and lead-free mirrors | AGC Glass Europe
Lacobel and Matelac painted glass are both made of float glass, the difference being that Lacobel is painted on one side (glossy) while Matelac is painted on one side and acid-etched on the other (matt). AGC also offers a C2C certified toughened version of its glossy and matt painted glass named Lacobel T and Matelac T.
Available in a large choice of colours and special options, Matelux acid-etched glass strikes a delicate balance between offering privacy and letting in light.

AA 100 Q Aluminium Curtain Wall | Kawneer
The AA 100 Q aluminium curtain wall system of Kawneer is designed for simple set up and mount, but a large number of possible variations. Variable configurations include: type of water drainage, compartment or channel drainage, and which cover strips to use for the outside of the facade. Within the AA 100 Q it is also possible to construct a (semi-)structural facade. The inside construction will be the same in any case. The most divergent facade solutions are possible in terms of design, anti-theft, fire resistance and (hidden) movable parts.
Uncoated and coated Glass | Vitro Architectural Glass
Architectural Glasses manufactured by Vitro Architectural Glass (formerly PPG Glass) are low-emissivity (low-e) glasses that are designed to make buildings more energy-efficient. Solarban® solar control low-e glasses are formulated to block solar heat in the summer. Sungate®, a passive low-e glass, is engineered to trap furnace and solar heat in the winter. Both glasses are designed to transmit high levels of daylight and reduce demand for temperature controls and lighting. Additionally, Solarban® or Sungate® may be united in insulating glass units with Starphire Ultra-Clear™, performance-tinted glasses by Vitro Glass, generating many technical performance and aesthetic options for architects and building designers.
